Fresh beer always tastes the best…so why not make your own? Join me at the Oakhurst Community Garden and learn how to brew herbal beers and wines. I’ll teach you the basics of brewing with traditional/medicinal herbs and other locally-grown ingredients. You will leave the class feeling confident enough to start brewing your first batch of local brew.

We’ll make a 5-gallon batch of Mugwort Honey Porter and a 1-gallon batch of herbal mead. This beer is hopless and flavored with a mix of mugwort, licorice, chamomile, lemon grass, orange peel, vanilla beans, Indian sarsaparilla, a little coffee, and wildflower honey. The mead will be made using local honey, hibiscus, rosehips, lemon grass, orange peel, spearmint, and rose petals.

The Oakhurst Community Garden Project (OCGP) teaches environmental awareness through hands-on gardening and outdoor education programs. The OCGP is located at the corner of South McDonough Street and Oakview Road in Decatur, just southwest of Agnes Scott College.

$35 for Garden members, $40 for non-members
